Pear Tree Specialist School caters for 76 children and young people aged 2-19 with severe and profound learning difficulties and disabilities.
The current Further Education Unit (F.E.) at Pear Tree is housed in a bungalow opposite the main entrance to the school. The
‘bungalow’ had previously been a garage and had been extended to create 3 small teaching rooms that are no longer fit for purpose. There are currently 14 students aged 16-19 in the Further Education Unit at Pear Tree but not all 14 students can be accommodated in the ‘bungalow’ at the same time because none of the rooms is large enough.
In 2013 the school was given the opportunity to redesign and refurbish Kirkham Hall at the rear of the school to create fit for purpose 21st Century facilities. The hall is very tired and dated and not at all attractive; as demonstrated in this photograph.
The school is currently seeking financial support from local organisations and charities to meet the cost of this development. When completed Kirkham Hall will be known as Pear Tree 6th Form and will dramatically improve the learning opportunities of a very special and deserving group of young people.
