Ambleside AC Juniors train weekly and ages range from 7 to 16. The juniors also race regularly. This year one of their U12 girls was runner up in the national fell running championships, and they have many other juniors who regularly win medals. The junior section of Ambleside AC started in 2011, coached by two committed members of the senior team, with around 8 junior runners. They now we have 8 regular coaches and around 50 members with many on the waiting list.
They are desperate to support more adults to train as coaches. Thanks to the nomination from Baysbrown Farm Campsite, the location of a Lakeland 100 checkpoint, Epic Kidz have donated £250 towards the fees for at least one adult to become a coach for the club. This will mean that they can allow another group of children to join the club, train and race with them.
The children’s hospice provides one to one care for children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, as well as extending the care and support to their families.
Jigsaw’s home-from-home environment allows the nurses to match the children and young adults home routine as closely as possible, ensuring a smooth, relaxing and peaceful transition between the home and hospice environments.
The money donated will help towards the continuing care provided at the Children’s Hospice, which is in excess of over £800,000 a year.
Farmers from surrounding valleys bring their Herdwick sheep to compete in various classes against each other. The show is a great day out for the whole family with events going on throughout the day. There are trade stands, hound trials, vintage machinery, lots of dog classes, terrier racing, fell races, classes for shepherds crooks/sticks and children’s sports, wrestling and, naturally, a beer tent.
Epic Kidz have donated £250.00 of the monies raised by the Lakeland 100 & Lakeland 50 runners to the Wasdale Show which will help to fund the children’s sports section.
