1st Grange & Cartmel Scout Group has 125 youngsters aged between 6 and 14 together with a small unit of Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18. They have 20 leaders working with the young people and around the same again who help look after all the equipment, maintenance of the scout base, trustees and fund raisers. The focus for the Scout group over the past year has been to make sure their programmes are exciting, adventurous and accessible financially to all. They need to continually invest in equipment as their numbers grow as they are currently the 2nd largest Scout Group in Cumbria.
The Scout group take part in many activities such as sailing trips, youth hostelling, water activities at Bassenthwaite to name a few as well as a lot of fund raising.
Scouting places great store on helping young people become self-reliant. Food is frequently a key part of their activities. Pancake day this year had a very real demonstration that Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers can cook (when properly motivated!).
Thanks to the kind generosity of the Cumbrian Cracker participants, your donations at the Scout food stop added up to a grand total of £540. To thank all the riders for digging deep, Epic Kidz have matched the riders donation of £540 and brought to total amount raised to £1080.
