£600.00 to 2nd Atherton Scout Group

2nd Atherton Scout Group is growing rapidly from humble beginnings and there have been Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at 2nd Atherton for over 100 years.

atherton scout groupOver the last few years the troops have been very active, meeting once a week, and have had many weekends away (primarily under canvas). The scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. They learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, & even how to fly a plane.

On Wednesday 23rd March the scouts recently renovated camping trailer was stolen from outside their scout hut. The numerous camps for the entire group was placed at risk as there was no way of getting the considerable amount of camping equipment to the campsites all across the North West. Epic Kidz donated £600 to 2nd Atherton Scout Group to allow them to replace the stolen trailer so that they can now hit the road and attend the planned summer camps.

The stolen trailer was located earlier this month by one of our eagle-eyed Scouts outside a house in Atherleigh (just 1/2 mile from our HQ) with a coat of paint applied and a new “owner”.

We informed the Police but they interviewed the new ‘owner’ and advised that they may be an “innocent purchaser” with a plausible story (paid cash at the side of a road in north Wales, had no receipt and no contact details for the person they’d purchased it from) and that we would need to initiate steps for a “civil recovery” via GMP Civil Judicial Services which we did fully expecting the worst – months of wrangling and then a decision against us.

However, and much to our surprise the decision was reached within a couple of weeks and the decision went in our favour. Last week we recovered the trailer and its now back in our possession under much bigger lock and keys and with our faith in the rule of the law greatly restored.

If Marc wants to discuss the donation made to fund the trailer replacement please ask him to get in touch with me at 07963 564699.
