This year the Montane Lakeland 100 competitors have raised in excess of £42,000.00 for Epic Kidz. The Lakeland 100 event has a huge and dedicated team of hard working volunteers and this year we have asked all of the checkpoint owners and checkpoint managers from the event to nominate a group or charity to receive an Epic Kidz donation. Over the coming few months we will be blogging about all the donations made to all the good causes nominated by the Lakeland 100 family.
Our next donation in the series has come from Caroline Smith (North Country Leisure). Caroline has managed the Seathwaite checkpoint for a number of years now and it is the first checkpoint on the Lakeland 100 course. Caroline has chosen the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association to receive her £500 donation.
The LDSAMRA is the umbrella body for mountain rescue teams based in Cumbria. They have 12 member teams that cover the Lake District and Cumbria and are solely funded by voluntary contributions. They provide a vital service to the whole area whether it be simple safety advice for walking in the mountains to rescuing individuals who have had accidents, often in quite inhospitable and hard to reach places.
You can read about the Mountain Rescue via their website and keep up to date with their daily activities via their facebook page.
