1st Grange & Cartmel Scout Group is a big Scout Group with well over 100 youngsters aged between 6 and 14 together with a small unit of Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18. They have 20+ leaders working with the young people and around the same again who help look after all the equipment, maintenance of the scout base, trustees and fund raisers.
Scouting places great store on helping young people become self-reliant. Food is frequently a key part of their activities. Just last month the Scouts turned their Scout Hut into the Great British Bake Off Tent where they made their own cookies, pizza bases, sandwiches, fruit kebabs and much more.
The Scouts also regularly get outdoors hiking or camping as well as overnight stays at places like the Sealife Centre. There is something going on almost every day of the week which keeps this Scout Group extremely busy.
Because of the size of the Group, they need to continually invest in equipment as their numbers grow as they are one of the largest Scout Groups in Cumbria.
Thanks to the kind generosity of the Cumbrian Cracker Cycle Sportive participants, the donations at the Scout food stop added up to a grand total of £621.15.
To thank all the riders for digging deep, Epic Kidz matched the riders donation and then rounded it up to bring the total amount raised to £1250. This will really help the scouts keep their equipment working and up to date as well as helping with future trips such as their planned trip to Derbyshire in the near future.
