Zappi Racing presented it’s new junior team in Oxford on Saturday 3rd December. The team includes Mark Donovan (National CX Champion – Cumbria), Jake Wright (National Junior 25 Mile TT Champion – Bury), Lewis Hartley (Poulton Le Fylde), Jacques Sauvangnargues (Chipping Norton) & Harry Gillett (Leamington). The team of very promising juniors have a very challenging training and racing calendar ahead of themselves, including UCI and National level races in the UK, Spain, Belguim, France and Italy. The Dave Hitchen Fund has given the Zappi Racing Junior Team a grant of £500 to help with their travel costs.

Flavio said “This group of boys carry their hopes and dreams through their junior years. To succeed they will need passion and dedication as well as talent. Zappi aims to give them the opportunities to develop this mix through a very healthy and ethical approach. There is a lot of race travel for these guys to do and the Dave Hitchen Fund support will make a big difference in helping to meet the rider travel costs“.

Fast Hitch Athlete Update – Abbie Dawson

gym-team

Last May the Dave Hitchen Fund gave a grant to talented gymnast, Abbie Dawson. Abbie had successfully obtained a place on the Senior Womens Gymnastic Team and went on to represent Great Britain at the European Team Gymnastics Championships in Slovenia last October.

Abbie already has a British Gymnastics gold medal and was hoping to also get a European gold with her team.

Abbie went to Slovenia on 10th October as part of the Senior Womens Gymnastics Team. The team qualified in 6th place overall and made it to the final on 15th October. Unfortunately for the whole team, they didn’t bring any medals home however they did do their Country proud by reaching the finals and competing against the very best teams in Europe. The whole competition was also streamed live as the sport is very popular in Nordic countries.

Abbie’s aim for the future is to qualify for the GB team at the next European Championships in 2018.

Abbie and her parents have thanked everyone for their support. Abbie would not have been able to fulfil her dream if it wasn’t for the support and funding from the Dave Hitchen Fund.

£615 to the 1st Oswaldtwistle Scout Group

1st Oswaldtwistle Scout Group is one of the oldest Scout Groups in the UK. They are a small but really active troop, taking part in activities such as building go-kossy-scoutsarts, helping out at nature reserves and taking part in pedal-a-thons. They actively fundraise to help keep their scout group going with things like bag packing at supermarkets, recycling and much more. The scout group take part in numerous outdoor activities, weekend trips and will attend camps quite regularly but unfortunately their scout tent has seen better days.

Epic Kidz donated £615 to the 1st Oswaldtwistle Scout Group to allow them to purchase a brand new Troop Tent which will last them for many years to come.

£500 donated to Broughton Primary School

This year the Montane Lakeland 100 competitors have raised in excess of £42,000.00 for Epic Kidz. The Lakeland 100 event has a huge and dedicated team of hard working volunteers and this year we have asked all of the checkpoint owners and checkpoint managers from the event to nominate a group or charity to receive an Epic Kidz donation. Over the past few months we have been blogging about all the donations made to all the good causes nominated by the Lakeland 100 family.

Our next donation in the series has come from Gail, the owner of the Seathwaite Checkpoint, the first checkpoint on the Lakeland 100 course. Gail has chosen Broughton Primary School to receive her £500 donation

Broughton C of E Primary School is a very small, friendly, caring school based in Broughton in Furness. They have 67 children at the school that are taught in 3 classes. They are currently involved in a massive push to get children more active and leading a healthy lifestyle. The Epic Kidz/Lakeland 100 Competitors donation of £500 will be spent primarily on funding the introduction of a new school project called “Sparkstart 100 mile Challenge”. The challenge is aimed at getting all the children active and completing 100 miles on foot, bike or by swimming. The donation will be used to buy the starter packs, posters and certificates as well as to buy extra resources and equipment to help the children meet the challenge.

Broughton Primary School said “many thanks for the kind donation which will hopefully help build a school of super fit, super healthy children (and parents)”
