Last year Epic Kidz gave a Dave Hitchen Grant to Savannah Morgan. She started off as a 10 year old in the field of triathlon however soon discovered she had great ability on the bike. She had a go at some local crit races and then the Dolan series and CDNW races. By 2015, Savannah had won the Dolan series, competed in the Youth Tour of Scotland and was picked for the Hoy Future Stars races.
In 2016, 16 year old Savanah wanted to progress to 2-3 day races but was struggling to keep up with the competition due to her lack of a time trial bike. Her family were unable to purchase a TT bike as they had already purchased a road bike for the forthcoming season as well as the race entry fees and travel expenses associated with racing up and down the country.
The Dave Hitchen Fund stepped in and provided a grant to allow Savannah to buy her needed TT bike.
Fast forward to 2017, Savannah has made her road time trial debut in the UCI nations cup at the Omloop Van Borsele in the Netherlands. Unfortunately for Savannah she picked up food poisoning after this stage so was unable to compete in stage 2 after being pulled from the start line due to vomiting.
Savannah says that “the trip wouldn’t have been possible without the Dave Hitchen funding to help with the purchase of the Time Trial bike” and she will keep us all updated with her results and progress in future races.
