The Montane Lakeland 100 competitors raise thousands of pounds for the Epic Kidz charity. Every July runners take part in this iconic event by completing either 50 or 100 (105) miles around the Lake District. Along the way the runners pass through 14 checkpoints manned entirely by volunteers. We have asked all of the checkpoint owners & managers from the 2017 event to nominate a group or charity to receive an Epic Kidz donation. Over the next few months we will be blogging about all the donations made to all the good causes nominated by our Lakeland 100 family.
The next donation was nominated by Ambleside Parish Hall (affectionately known as checkpoint 12 to our Lakeland 100 & 50 runners). Ambleside Parish Hall nominated The Family Drop In group to receive their donation.
The Family Drop In has been running for 1 year now and meets every Monday afternoon from 1-3pm during term time. A team of volunteers give their time to set up at Ambleside Parish Hall, serve refreshments and provide support to local families. There are at least 2 volunteers at each session. The group is attended by around 10 local families with an age range from 0-60 (ish) as Grandparents are just as involved as the Parents.
The group host a number of activities for younger children, some of the favourites being play dough and craft sessions. Alongside these activities the parents are given a chance to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and talk or receive support from other parents & the volunteers. Once a term, a Nursery Assistant from the local school comes to read a story.
The Family Drop In Group have thanked all the people who contributed towards the £500 donation which will go a long way in helping to support the running of the group.
