£500 donation to Skem Men-Aces F.C.

The Montane Lakeland 100 competitors raise thousands of pounds for the Epic Kidz charity. Every July runners take part in this iconic event by completing either 50 or 100 (105) miles around the Lake District. Along the way the runners pass through 14 checkpoints manned entirely by volunteers. We have asked all of the checkpoint owners & managers from the 2017 event to nominate a group or charity to receive an Epic Kidz donation. Over the next few months we will be blogging about all the donations made to all the good causes nominated by our Lakeland 100 family.

Our next donation comes from the team that manage the Dockray checkpoint. Dave Ralphs & his Newburgh Nomads keep this checkpoint going throughout the early hours of Saturday morning and they are never without a smile. The Dockray team have nominated the Skem Men-Aces Football Club to receive a £500 Epic Kidz donation.Skem Menaces

Skem Men-Aces Football Club is a football team for people with learning disabilities based in Skelmersdale. The team was formed in July 2009 and already has a squad of over 40 members. The club has had tremendous success since forming. They have featured on TV, local radio and in the newspapers, they won a SILVER MEDAL at the Special Olympics in 2013 and have won many volunteer awards. The Skem Men-Aces team is unique to the North West area and, as a result, they travel all over the country to compete in competitions which has resulted in a very full trophy cabinet. For many of their athletes, the club is the only thing they have in their lives and their smiles after a match is something fabulous to see.

The Skem Men-Aces were completely blown away by the Epic Kidz donation of £500. They are constantly looking for ways and means to find the necessary funds in order to be able to keep this successful football club on its continuing road to success and to ultimately offer each team member new and exciting opportunities that they would not normally get. The £500 donation will be put to great use as the team are taking 6 lads over to Belfast for a 3 day football tournament. Some of these lads have never traveled outside Skelmersdale so it will be a huge experience for them.

Skem Men-Aces have thanked Dave & the Nomads for the super gesture in nominating them and to everyone who has raised funds for Epic Kidz to allow them to receive the fabulous support.
